15th edition of World Press Photo Montreal exhibition<\/h1>\n

Montreal, June 13, 2022 \u2013\u00a0The World Press Photo Montreal\u00a0exhibition team is proud to announce that artist Caroline Monnet will serve as spokesperson for its 15th edition, which will take place from August 31 to October 2 at Bonsecours Market. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The artist will present the world premiere of her exhibition Ikwewak (Women), which will be showcased alongside the prize-winning photographs of the most prestigious international press photography contest. After a two-year absence, this marks a noteworthy return to form for the flagship cultural event of Montreal\u2019s fall calendar.<\/p>\n

Women by Caroline Monnet<\/h2>\n

“Women is a series of photographs featuring First Nations women who break free from the historical European gaze by reshaping their biased portrayals in the collective consciousness,” explains Caroline Monnet. “Women is part of a series of photo and video works that depict the indigenous woman in all her splendor, quirks, elegance, pride and charisma. In Women, I take a closer look at my generation and their desire to positively step into the future, while building on tradition and taking their rightful place in society. What emerges is a sense of excitement and enthusiasm about a future that we will build together over the next seven generations,” adds Monnet.<\/p>\n

About Caroline Monnet<\/h2>\n

Born to an Anishinaabe mother and a French father, Caroline Monnet lives and works in Montreal. She is well known for her work with industrial materials, combining the vocabulary of popular and traditional visual cultures with contemporary codes to create unique hybrid forms. She is represented by Blouin Division Gallery. Her project Women is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.<\/p>\n
