Montreal, June 18, 2024<\/strong> – The World Press Photo Montreal<\/strong> exhibition<\/strong> team announces that its 17th edition will be presented at the Bonsecours Market<\/strong>, from August 28 to October 14. Alongside the winning photos from the 2024 edition, the event will highlight the work of Quebec photographer Charles-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Ouellet<\/strong>, the first Quebec winner in 25 years, with a series of large-format images photographed during the wave of forest fires in Quebec in the summer of 2023. Vincent Bolduc<\/strong> will act as spokesperson for this new edition. For the second year running, the exhibition is collaborating with the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration professionnelle des journalistes du Qu\u00e9bec (FPJQ)<\/strong> to present the finalists for the Prix Antoine-Desilets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Force majeure<\/em><\/strong>, an exhibition by Charles-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Ouellet, winner of the 2024 edition<\/strong><\/p>\n

The World Press Photo Montr\u00e9al exhibition team will present the premiere of the Force majeure <\/em><\/strong>exhibition, featuring a series of large-format images taken by Charles-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Ouellet during the wave of forest fires in Quebec in the summer of 2023. One of these images won him a prestigious prize in the World Press Photo 2024 competition, in the Single Image category. This is the first time in 25 years that a Quebec photographer has won such an award, and the first photo taken in Quebec since the event’s inception in 1955.<\/p>\n

“At the dawn of an era in which the impacts of human activity are irreversible, people must rethink their place in the ecosystems they inhabit. This exhibition offers an interior, immersive perspective in which I am both photographer and auxiliary forest fighter. My images seek to evoke a world in transformation, where humans are forced to adapt to survive,” confides Charles-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Ouellet.<\/p>\n

Vincent Bolduc: a family affair <\/strong><\/p>\n

Actor, host and columnist, Vincent Bolduc is also a writer, script-editor and content producer for numerous TV productions such as Mammouth, Trop, Rue King, Six degr\u00e9s<\/em> and Temps de chien<\/em>. This year, he turns to directing with the youth series Denis Danger<\/em>, set to air on T\u00e9l\u00e9-Qu\u00e9bec this winter.<\/p>\n

“Every year, I look forward to this essential exhibition. Each visit is an opportunity to suspend time and take a fresh look at events that have left their mark on our planet through powerful images, sometimes without equal. Visiting the exhibition as a family allows us to tackle crucial subjects with the necessary goodwill. I’m delighted to be attending this year\u2019s edition as its spokesperson,” says Vincent Bolduc, spokesperson for the 17th edition of the World Press Photo Montreal exhbition.<\/p>\n

“Vincent loves the event, understands its mission and speaks about it with passion,” says the event\u2019s general manager Yann Fortier. “We are touched by the way he affirms the need to see the exhibition, including for younger generations. Finalists for the FPJQ Antoine-Desilets Award<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since 2005, the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration professionnelle des journalistes du Qu\u00e9bec (FPJQ) has been awarding the Antoine-Desilets award in recognition of excellence in the field of press photographers working in Quebec media. For a second year, World Press Photo Montr\u00e9al is presenting some twenty finalists in the Arts & Culture, Social Issues, Portrait, Sports and Daily Life categories.<\/p>\n

“We’re thrilled by this collaboration with World Press Photo Montr\u00e9al, which promotes quality photojournalism in Quebec,” says \u00c9ric-Pierre Champagne, President of the FPJQ. In 2023, 143 entries and 31 photographers competed in the seven award categories.<\/p>\n
