Montreal, Thursday, October 17th, 2024<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0World Press Photo Montr\u00e9al welcomed more than 72 000 visitors to March\u00e9 Bonsecours from August 28th to October 14th.<\/p>\n

This flagship event of the fall cultural season, celebrating its 17th edition in Montreal this year, boasted healthy success this year, citing enthusiasm from school groups, who accounted for 14\u00a0000 tickets obtained through group reservations. A window on the world and a worthwhile tool for sparking discussion, the event remains unmissable while also proving the importance of journalism and of freedom of the press.<\/p>\n

\u201c The 2024 edition saw significant growth in bookings from school groups from high schools in the Greater Montreal area,\u201d notes Yann Fortier, general manager of the event. \u201cThis success is the fruit of ongoing collaboration, linked to our mission to raise awareness among newer generations of the realities of life both here and abroad. The exhibition is a platform for exchange and reflection. For us, its relevance and accessibility are paramount in Montreal’s cultural and social space. \u201d<\/p>\n

This year, World Press Photo Montr\u00e9al presented 128 winning photos from the world’s most prestigious photojournalism competition, plus complementary exhibitions produced by the Montreal team. These included Force majeure<\/strong><\/em>, by Quebec winner Charles-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Ouellet<\/strong>, Agence Stock Photo, notre monde en images<\/strong><\/em>, Funky, l’univers de F\u00e9lix Renaud<\/strong><\/em>, finalists for the FPJQ’s Antoine-Desilets prize<\/strong>, as well as D\u00e9crypteurs : les dessous de l’information<\/strong><\/em> by Radio-Canada and Saisir une \u00e9motion<\/strong><\/em> by La Presse.<\/p>\n

70 years of World Press Photo – August 27 to October 13, 2025<\/strong>
\nThe 18th Montreal edition of the exhibition will be held from August 27 to October 13, 2025, at the March\u00e9 Bonsecours in Old Montreal. It will mark the 70th anniversary of the World Press Photo exhibition, first launched in 1955 in Amsterdam. Its contents promise to bear witness to this journey across decades and continents.<\/p>\n

The Expo World Press Photo Montr\u00e9al team salutes its visitors, partners and guests of honor: actor, host and columnist Vincent Bolduc<\/strong>, spokesperson for the 2024 edition; photographer Charles-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Ouellet<\/strong>, the first Quebec winner in 25 years; Marika Cukrowski<\/strong>, exhibition director of the World Press Photo Foundation; and photographer Zied Ben Romdhane<\/strong>, winner of the 2024 edition, who met with the public to present his project at March\u00e9 Bonsecours.<\/p>\n
